Bordeaux

Petrus is made almost entirely from Merlot. It is opulent and dense, with layers of dark fruit, truffle and spice over a firm structure, and ages for many decades. Production is small and the wine is sold through a tightly controlled allocation.
Petrus is the most famous estate of Pomerol: a small vineyard on a plateau of rare blue clay that suits Merlot exceptionally well. Pomerol has no official classification, but Petrus is regarded as the equal of Bordeaux’s First Growths and is one of the most expensive wines in the world.
Its reputation was built in the mid twentieth century by its owner Madame Edmond Loubat, and the estate is now owned by the Moueix family.
