About this wine
Mouton is usually the most opulent of the Pauillac First Growths, with a high share of Cabernet Sauvignon giving rich blackcurrant fruit, spice and a firm structure. It ages superbly, and great vintages need fifteen to twenty years to open fully. Each year’s artist label adds to its appeal for collectors.
About Mouton Rothschild
Château Mouton Rothschild, bought by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild in 1853, is the only estate ever promoted in the 1855 Classification: after a long campaign by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, it was raised from Second to First Growth in 1973. It lies beside Lafite in the north of Pauillac.
Since 1945 every vintage has carried a label illustrated by a different artist, among them Chagall, Miró, Picasso, Warhol and Francis Bacon, which makes Mouton as collectable for its labels as for the wine.
