About this wine
The grand vin is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and a little Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It is refined and perfumed, with cedar, graphite and blackcurrant, and is built to age: good vintages are usually at their best from around fifteen years and keep for many decades.
About Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild, at the northern end of Pauillac next to Saint-Estèphe, was listed first among the First Growths in the 1855 Classification. Baron James de Rothschild bought the estate in 1868 and it has belonged to his family ever since.
Lafite’s well-drained gravel slopes give wines known for elegance and fragrance rather than sheer power. Its name carries great weight with collectors around the world, which has made it one of the most widely traded fine wines.
