About this wine
Clos Saint-Jacques is a Premier Cru on Gevrey’s hillside, but its wines are widely thought the equal of Grand Cru, and prices reflect it. Rousseau owns the largest share of the vineyard; its wine is elegant and finely layered, combining charm with real ageing potential.
About Domaine Armand Rousseau
Domaine Armand Rousseau was built up in the early twentieth century by Armand Rousseau, one of the first growers in Burgundy to bottle his own wine. Run today by his grandson Eric Rousseau and Eric’s daughter Cyrielle, it is one of the most revered estates in the Côte de Nuits.
The domaine’s holdings are concentrated in the finest Grand Cru vineyards of Gevrey-Chambertin, above all Chambertin and Clos de Bèze. The wines are made traditionally, aiming for purity and finesse rather than weight, and demand far outstrips the small quantities made.
