About this wine
Carruades de Lafite is the second wine of Château Lafite Rothschild, named after a plateau of vineyards the estate added in the nineteenth century. It usually has more Merlot than the grand vin and is softer and earlier to drink, while keeping Lafite’s elegance. It has a strong following of its own, particularly in Asia.
About Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild, at the northern end of Pauillac next to Saint-Estèphe, was listed first among the First Growths in the 1855 Classification. Baron James de Rothschild bought the estate in 1868 and it has belonged to his family ever since.
Lafite’s well-drained gravel slopes give wines known for elegance and fragrance rather than sheer power. Its name carries great weight with collectors around the world, which has made it one of the most widely traded fine wines.
