Bordeaux

Ausone is made from roughly equal parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot grown on limestone. It is intensely concentrated, mineral and long-lived, often austere when young and needing many years to reveal its full depth.
Château Ausone is named after the Roman poet Ausonius, who is said to have had a villa near Saint-Émilion. Its small vineyard lies on the limestone slopes just outside the town, and it has been run by the Vauthier family for generations.
Ausone was one of the two original Premier Grand Cru Classé “A” estates of Saint-Émilion. In 2021 it chose to leave the Saint-Émilion classification, but it remains one of the rarest and most sought-after wines of Bordeaux.
