About this coin
The Quarter-Sovereign 2026 Gold Bullion Coin is a classic British gold coin minted by The Royal Mint, struck in 22 carat (916.7) fine gold. Weighing 1.997g and containing 1.8306g of pure gold, it features the timeless George & Dragon design by Pistrucci, enhanced with modern security details including micro-text and a latent image. A trusted and highly collectable bullion coin, it also remains VAT-free and CGT exempt for UK investors, making it a smart and tax-efficient choice.
About The Sovereign
The sovereign is one of the world’s oldest and best-known gold coins. The first was struck in 1489 for Henry VII, and the modern sovereign dates from 1817. Its reverse usually shows Benedetto Pistrucci’s design of St George slaying the dragon, one of the most celebrated coin designs ever made.
Sovereigns are struck by the Royal Mint in 22 carat (916.7) gold. The full sovereign contains 7.32g of fine gold; the half sovereign and quarter sovereign (first issued in 2009) contain a half and a quarter of that. As UK legal tender, sovereigns are free of Capital Gains Tax for UK residents, and their size makes them a flexible way to buy and later sell gold in smaller amounts.
